JOB OVERVIEW:
Gray Matter is a rapidly growing Colorado-based specialty contractor founded in 2022 seeking a concrete estimator to prepare estimates and support efforts to control costs. Your goal is to provide the most accurate and comprehensive estimate so that our team can execute successful projects for our clients.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Estimating
- Find and select concrete jobs.
- Request vendor quotes from material suppliers, equipment rental companies, subcontractors, and service providers. Review the quotes for accuracy.
- Perform all quantity take-offs for concrete projects which may include formwork, concrete volume, finish areas, etc.
- Perform job walks as required to support estimating efforts.
- Prepare RFI’s to resolve bidding issues.
- Review and evaluate bids prepared by other team members.
- Support project teams on large change order efforts.
- Meet with clients to discuss bid status, present proposals & negotiate bids.
- Keep company management, project managers, clients, and all others involved in a project up-to-date on bid progress.
- Perform research to develop ways to reduce overall project costs.
- Attend estimating and project meetings.
- Participate in post-project meetings to recap actual production rates and find opportunities for improvement.
- Participate in weekly production meetings and ensure company standard rates are evaluated and changed as required.
- Create and maintain template estimates with all production rates.
- Complete prequalification packages.
Project Kickoff
- Lead kickoff meeting with project team members to ensure they are prepared to execute the project and relay any specific details discussed during the bid.
- Ensure project cost reporting structure is set up properly.
Business Development
- Foster relationships with vendors to establish lower pricing and best service from our vendors.
- Stay current with new products, means, and methods.
- Support efforts to build personal relationships with peers, client decision makers, and architectural and engineering firms.
- Attend industry-related networking events, client activities, and charitable functions. These may occur after normal business hours.
- Develop and maintain current knowledge of industry activity, trends, and competitive information.
- Be a champion of Gray Matter mission and goals.
